VersaEmerge at Montreal's Underworld Review

VersaEmerge at Montreal's Underworld Review

The last time VersaEmerge was in Montreal, they performed at the Vans Warped Tour. This time around, they were headlining their own show at Montreal’s Underworld. Opening acts included Conditions, The Dangerous Summer and Anarbor.

The Underworld venue isn’t your usual run of the mill concert venue. For starters, it sits on top of a skate shop. It's also different in that bands make their way to the stage by walking through the crowd and climbing up the front of the stage. I’m sure that the majority of the people in the crowd had no idea that it was Blake, Sierra, Devon and Chris pushing past them until they hit the stage.

Fixed at Zero, the first single off of their debut album, Fixed at Zero, was the perfect way to start the night off with a bang. The pint-sized firework known as Sierra Kusterbeck took to the stage as if she has been a front woman for years, garnering the attention of everyone there.

The setlist was perfect. They started off with Fire (Aim Your Arrows High) and Up There to get the blood pumping and get the energy flowing. They then slowed it down a bit with You’ll Never Know and brout the energy right back up with Moment To Sleep. Midway through the set, the crowd became the fifth member of the band providing backing vocals for Figure it Out. They ended their set a few songs later with Whisperer but the crowd still wanted more.

Coming back on stage to chants of "Versa", the band returned to perform Clocks off of their second EP, Perceptions.

The mix of Sierra’s powerful voice combined with Blake's smokey vocals prove to be a winning combination. While this band is still pretty new to the game, you can tell that they will only get better with time. During the show, Sierra said, “We’ll keep coming back if you keep coming back”. I think it’s safe to say that Montreal will be seeing a  lot of VersaEmerge in the future.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Sierra a few minutes before the show. We'll be posting the entire interview in the next few days so stay tuned. In the meanwhile, make sure to check out our VersaEmerge pictures at Underworld. For upcoming tour dates, visit VersaEmerge's website.
