Black Eyed Peas and Aguilera Perform at Super Bowl XLV
During Super Bowl Sunday, one could expect a few fumbles or even botched plays on the field from the teams, but not by the musical acts.
The first fumble of the night goes to Christina Aguilera. She was given the honor of performing the US national anthem in front of millions of fans watching the game and she messed up the lyrics. After forgetting to sing "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming", she went on to sing "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last reaming." In case you missed it, here it is.
Next fumble of the night goes to Black Eyed Peas. While visually their performance was great, vocally it left much to be desired. While Will.i.am, Taboo and Apl.de.ap were ok, Fergie was way off key and cringe-worthy. Starting off their performance with Boom Boom Pow, it transitioned into a painful cover of Guns N Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine which featured Slash on guitar. We feel bad for Axl who has to witness this travesty on his birthday. One highlight of the performance was when Usher joined them on stage to perform OMG. Where is the Love followed and led into The Time and they finished off the night with I Gotta Feeling.
Overall, the performance wasn't great, but most of blame for that needs to be placed on Fergie and whoever was controlling the audio. Her microphone was way too loud and her vocal flourishes were just too much. She seemed to have forgotten that she was there to sing, and not to scream. If you're a masochist and want to see the performance again, we've included it below.
