Metallica Inducted Into the Hall of Fame

Metallica Inducted Into the Hall of Fame

Twenty eight years ago, a young Lars Ulrich placed an ad in a local newspaper wanting to start a band. One can only wonder if he ever imagined that one day that band would have the honor of being inducted in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

On April 4, 2009, Metallica, along with Run D.M.C, Jeff Beck, Little Anthony & the Imperials and Bobby Womack will join the illustrious list of inductees into the Hall of Fame.

Since the band was first created back in 1981, it has consisted of three primary members, Lars Ulrich on drums, James Hetfield on vocals and rhythm guitar and Kirk Hammett on lead guitar. Currently the position of bassist is held by Robert Trujillo.

Lars Ulrich told Billboard.com that the ceremony is "a sort of family reunion." Unfortunately, some family members will not be able to attend. Founding guitarist Dave Mustaine will not be present due to touring commitments with his current band Megadeth.

He posted the following open letter to Metallica from Megadeth’s official website:

Metallica, as you know, has been selected to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So, it is with much respect that I say congratulations! I also had the nice surprise of hearing that they called to invite me to the pre-ceremony party the night before, and then to the actual ceremony. Unfortunately, as you all know, I will be winding down our European tour with Judas Priest, so I will be unable to attend. However, I’d like to say to Lars (Ulrich) and James (Hetfield), I am so very proud of all you have accomplished. Thank you for the invitation and thinking of me.

Ray Burton, father of Cliff Burton will be in attendance to accept on behalf of his son. Cliff passed away in a bus accident during their Damage Inc tour in 1986

Former bassists Ron McGovney and Jason Newsted will be there for the induction. Newsted also plans on performing with Metallica.

This has been an amazing year for the band, highlights include the release of Death Magnetic, a world tour, their very own Guitar Hero game and their own line of Converse running shoes.

One can only imagine what the future holds for this band because at the rate they're going, there is no end in sight.

The ceremony can be seen live on Fuse TV.
