Interview with Adelitas Way

Interview with Adelitas Way

Adelitas Way is a band you need to know about. Hailing from Las Vegas, these guys are generating solid buzz around their debut album...and it hasn't even been released yet! Their rocking anthem, Invincible, was chosen as the official theme for WWE Superstars and has been featured on CSI: Miami. Throw in their tours with 10 Years and Saliva and it’s easy to see why Adelitas Way is a name you'll be hearing often.

I caught up with lead vocalist, Rick DeJesus, for the lowdown on Adelitas Way.

UpVenue (UV): Can you tell us a bit about your upcoming album?

Adelitas Way (AW): It’s a real rock oriented record.  We made a record we wanted to make.
We didn’t make a record for a producer or for the label; they were very supportive of the record we made. It was a great team effort. We made an Adelitas Way record that had a lot of our personal experiences on it.

UV: You’ve been touring quite a bit lately; what, in your opinion, is the
best thing about tour?

AW: The best thing about touring is meeting all the great new people and
becoming friends with the new bands and the crew. We are very fortunate
to be where we are and we love it on the road; we meet the most amazing
people night in and night out.

UV: Your song, Invincible, was chosen for WWE Superstars. How did that come
about?

AW: Our management, In de Goot, our label, and Warner Chappell all have a
great relationship with the WWE. They gave them the song and the WWE
said that was exactly what they were looking for. We are very excited to
be a part of the WWE.

UV: Did you watch wrestling as kids?

AW: We were all die hard fans, Chris still is.

UV: Who were your favorites?

AW: I loved Stone Cold Steve Austin, he was bad ass!

UV: Who are they now?

AW: I like Randy Orton, he is the new bad ass!

UV: You shot your video for Invincible between June 6th and 8th; how was
the experience?

AW: It was life changing. I couldn’t believe that it was all for us. I’m very
fortunate to be here,  it was surreal.

UV: Is it a video that is acting based or performance based?

AW: A lot of performance!

UV: What are your top five music videos of all time?

AW: Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden, Enter Sandman by Metallica, Party all the time by Eddie Murphy, Sex Type Thing by Stone Temple Pilots, and Cochise by Audioslave.

UV: What albums are you looking forward to this year?

AW: I would definitely say July 14 (the day our album comes out haha)! We are so anxious for our record to come out. I would also say Linkin Park; we are dying to hear a new record from them. I also am excited that Evanescence is doing a new record as well. We can’t wait for the new Chevelle album…we love those guys. They treated us great; we can’t wait to hit the road again with them.  We toured with them for a month. Also the new Alice In Chains record…man, now I’m getting excited!!!

UV: What would people be surprised to know about Adelitas
Way?

AW: I don’t know… I think it would have to be that we have partied with Eddie
Murphy, and that we all think Eddie rocks pretty hard.

UV: You give a lot of shout outs to your street team through your Twitter
account. Can you tell us a bit about what makes them so special?

AW: They are so dedicated to us. They are amazing people. We are very lucky
to have that support.

UV: Your merchandise is definitely something to look at – do you have a
hand in the designing process?

AW: Yes, we are a big part of that we are very excited about some of the new
designs coming out.

UV: And finally, rumor has it that you are Wii Tennis fans. Who among you
is the reigning champ?

AW: I kick everyone’s ass! Haha! So when you see them tell them Rick is the champ! I just whooped all the 10 Years guys on the bus too. I let them think I never played before but I have a Wii! I’m going to make a Gold Wii Tennis belt!

This album will expose you to the many faces of Adelitas Way. Invincible, their first single, reflects the attitude of this band; get in the way of these hard working rockers and prepare to face the consequences. They've come a long way and show no signs of turning back. It's what made the song so perfect for the WWE.

There is no doubt that songs like Scream, Dirty Little Thing, and My Derailment will prove to be great live songs; they're what concert anthems are made of. Hear them for yourself when they tour with Sick Puppies, starting August 13; now that's a lineup that I, for one, am looking forward to.

Adelitas Way mixes it up, however, by exposing a softer, more emotional side with Closer To You and Last Stand; one almost gets the impression of having eavesdropped on a private conversation. Combine those lyrics with the talented musicianship of Adelitas Way and it's easy to see (and hear) what makes those songs so effective. Last Stand is the favorite song here at UpVenue.

Without revealing too much, I will remind you that Adelitas Way’s debut self-titled album comes out July 14, 2009.

Adelitas way is: Rick DeJesus (lead vocals), Chris Iorio (lead guitar), Tre Stafford (drums), Keith Wallen (vocals, guitar), and Derek Johnston (bass).

While we wait impatiently for the album, here’s a little teaser to whet your appetite:
