15 Songs About Food That Will Make You A Little Hungry

Is lunch around the corner? Are you craving a snack? These songs will definitely help you whet your appetite.

Two worldly pleasures almost everyone can enjoy are music and food; so when the pair join, it can become a magical experience. As great as power-eating steak and eggs to death metal is, we're more talking about when songs explicitly include food. Sometimes a specific dish is a metaphor, at other times just in the track for dramatic effect, but no matter the case, when you hear food in a song, you can't help but be taken back to meals of yore and maybe get a little hungry.

Because everyone should have a playlist marked “songs about eating” we've taken the liberty of compiling a hot list of gustatory tunes you can listen to whenever you want to get in the mood for food.

The Flying Burrito Brothers - Hot Burrito #1

When you name your band "The Flying Burrito Brothers" you BETTER have a song about burritos. While the song makes it sound like a guy trying to convince a girl that her current boyfriend isn't all that great, the title of the song reveals the true meaning: burritos are more important than any romantic relationship, ever. So much truth.

Gym Class Heroes - Cookie Jar ft. The-Dream

Here we have another amazing moment in the long history of pop music and the objectification of women, with Gym Class Heroes equating good looking ladies with, well, cookies. Quite literally. Apparently Asians are Oatmeal Raisin, Brazilians are Hazelnut and Caucasian girls are Macadamia. Sure, why not.

13

The Supremes - Buttered Popcorn

When you go to the movies, you can't help but order buttered popcorn, and The Supremes understand that. Okay, the dude in this track eats the stuff all day everyday, which can't be good for his cholesterol levels, but at least the ladies of The Supremes are willing to stand by their man despite his horrible eating habits.

12

ZZ Top - TV Dinners

No one has really encapsulated the love-hate relationship everyone has with TV dinner better than ZZ Top. Yes, they're convenient, but you totally feel like a scrub eating one, because as ZZ Top points out, they're filled with "Twenty year old turkey in a thirty year old tin." That's the price we pay for convenience.

11

The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever

The Beatles actually have a few songs featuring food, but Strawberry Fields Forever is easily the most famous. Inspired by Jon Lennon's childhood memories of having fun in an actual garden dubbed Strawberry Field located near his house in Liverpool. And here I thought it was just about tripping in a field, go figure.

10

Marcy Playground - Sex And Candy

If there are two things everyone on God's green Earth loves, it's sex and candy. Well, sex and candy AND double cherry pie, which Marcy Playground's iconic track has in spades. Oh, and disco lemonade, which sounds strangely delicious.

9

Weezer - Pork And Beans

The moral of this food-centric song is just doing you, even if that means eating pork and beans with a side of candy. Considering pickles and peanut butter is a thing, there are stranger combinations out in the culinary world.

8

Snoop Dogg - Peaches N Cream ft. Charlie Wilson

Freshly off Snoop's new album Bush, you can pretty much guess what the song is about: a lady as fine as peaches 'n cream. To analyze the song, the woman (with a big booty no less) is the peach, and her freakum dress is the cream, or something as ridiculous as that.

7

Harry Champion - Oh! That Gorgonzola Cheese

William Henry Crump, better known as Harry Champion, tells the tale of a dinner party gone wrong. Harry's wife had left Gorgonzola cheese out for too long, and needless to say the guests didn't respond kindly, going as far as shooting the cheese. Apparently filling Gorgonzola cheese with bullet holes only makes it stronger, fyi. See the great Robin Williams rendition.

6

Carpenters - Jambalaya (On The Bayou)

Everyone's favourite musical-sibling duo (The White Stripes held this title for a while, before we learned t'was all a sham) released this food-track in 1952. Even though Carpenters are focusing more on the fun to be had on the bayou preparing the jambalaya, it still counts as a food-song. Plus there's some sweet flute-action to enjoy.

5

Rihanna - Birthday Cake

Leave it to Ri-Ri to take something as wholesome as birthday cake and making it into a metaphor for sex. Honestly, I think it's kind of genius, and now every time I enter a bakery I just start saying "Cake, cake, cake, cake, cake." Give the song a listen and you will too.

4

Jack Johnson - Banana Pancakes

Nothing gets more sickeningly adorable than Jack Johnson's uber-popular-with-all-tween-girls song "Banana Pancakes." Of course, anyone with a girlfriend loathed Johnson for this tune, as they were then forced into waking up early to make banana pancakes whenever it was rainy.

3

Lana Del Rey - Cola

Okay, so technically cola is a beverage, but to be fair, Lana says her genitals TASTE like Pepsi in the song, so that puts the track into the realm of food, right? She also says her eyes are wide like cherry pie, which is a slightly less disturbing thought.

2

Warrant - Cherry Pie

A lot of people probably hate Warrant for making a song that so blatantly objectifies women, though you should note that the band actually isn't much of a fan of the track either. Apparently Warrant was forced into making an overly simple "rock anthem" by the higher ups of Columbia records, with many band members feeling the song overshadowed some of the better content on their second album.

1

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Eat It

A pretty obvious choice, but Weird Al's "Beat It" parody mentions a whole mess of different foods, almost every meal of the day, and even cooking methods. If any song deserves a spot on this list, it's Eat It.
